Madmapper Lab

Brainstorm blog 3

I have been experimenting with madmapper and my personal artwork. I have been thinking of many ways that I could use projection mapping with some of my pieces. I have never thought about projecting onto my work before but I think it will be interesting to see how it would work and if there is any room for development. I have been making these sculpture-like box collages made out of caulk and tar paper. I plan to use these for my final project and incorporate abstract cartoon snippets on top of them using the projector. I believe they contrast well with the box collages, I don't plan to use a lot of color in the projection itself but instead create an embossing effect that makes it look like the collages are moving. It almost will replicate that tv static quality that you would get when watching tv during the box crt tv era. I have enjoyed the idea of pushing the digital side into my own personal practice. Combining it with my work has seem interesting and fulfilling and I hope to continue playing with that idea.

Project 3- watching the tv glow

Artist statement for project 3

My intention to create an embossing effect that mimics the look of TV static from the CRT era was my goal. By creating an embossing effect that resembles CRT-era TV static I hope to offer a compelling way to blend nostalgia with modern artistic expression in my collages. By focusing on a limited color palette, I wanted to only highlight the textural intricacies but also encourage viewers to engage with the work on a deeper level, prompting reflections on the relationship between digital experiences and tangible art forms. This interplay can evoke a wide range of emotions and interpretations, inviting the audience to consider how past technologies shape contemporary perceptions. I figured out that projection mapping offers innovative possibilities for enhancing artistic expression, particularly when combined with traditional mediums like sculpture. My approach to using this technology on my caulk and tar paper box collages hopefully holds significant potential for creating dynamic visual experiences. After experimenting with this project I am becoming more interested in integrating digital visuals with my physical artwork.
